Zero-waste initiative combines science and culture in a project-based learning environment

It all started with one pound of worms. Two years ago, a vermicomposting project in Kumu Naomi Helenihi-Aweau’s fourth grade class taught haumāna that food waste from the dining hall could be used - with the help of the worms - to create rich soil for planting.
