Our faith

Living our faith

At Kamehameha Schools, faith flows from the living water of Jesus and is expressed through Christ-centered love that keeps us connected to Ke Akua and one another. Guided by the principles of E Ola!, we strive to be kūpono and serve communities with aloha so that all can thrive spiritually, academically and culturally.

Pauahi’s legacy of aloha

Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop’s deep Christian faith inspired her to found Kamehameha Schools, ensuring Hawaiian children had both the knowledge to thrive and the values to become ‘ōiwi leaders. Rooted in a legacy of ali‘i who embraced the gospel, Ke Ali‘i Pauahi carried forward a generational commitment to Christ that continues to shape our organization today.

We are Protestant in tradition, non-denominational in practice, and loving in all things. We believe that Kamehameha Schools, as a Christian institution, has a responsibility to practice and perpetuate the Christian faith as exemplified by Ke Ali‘i Pauahi by:

  • Fostering faith in Ke Akua and in His Word as our foundation
  • Integrating Christian values into its programs and services
  • Providing the necessary learning opportunities, resources and training to deepen the understanding of Scripture and the Christian faith
  • Nurturing the relationship and the responsibility of its learners to Ke Akua and His creation,
    and
  • Living out our faith by practicing servant leadership
